Q: What are your long term career goals?
Since graduating in 2023 I’ve been working to develop my professional experience in art handling and installation logistics. Having now worked as a technician, art handler, and frame designer, alongside undertaking art handling workshops at Hunt Gallery, I’m now seeking to further develop my experience through a major cultural institution like the Gardiner. This internship would allow me to leverage the expertise I’ve developed over the last 3 years in smaller organizations while providing the opportunity to greatly expand my repertoire in a museological context.
I intend to pursue an MFA in sculpture at Yale University in 2028 having already gained thorough experience installing and fabricating in galleries and museums. Not only is this familiarity incredibly useful for an emerging artist, it will also allow me to finish school with the necessary preparation to jumpstart a career in exhibition logistics and object handling.
My current five year plan looks like this:
2026: Gain museum experience in Toronto + continue workshops at Hunt Gallery + first OAC grant + exhibit in Toronto
2027: continue professional development in the art world + assist galleries with large installations (volunteer basis if necessary) + artist in residence at Skowhegan + continue to exhibit & deepen my presence in Toronto + refine my portfolio
2028: 1st year MFA: freelance during summers
2029: 2nd year MFA + TA experience at grad school + begin applications to work in logistics with galleries & institutions
2030: Return to Toronto + Re-establish studio + continue a flourishing career in the cultural sector.
